Petition Against Galliano Teaching Launches

A PETITION attempting to prevent John Galliano from teaching at Parsons design college in New York has been launched. It was confirmed earlier this week that the designer would be taking a three-day master class at the celebrated school.
The petition - on change.org - currently has over 250 signatures, and was launched anonymously.
"It doesn't matter if it's for three months or three days, hiring someone who has made such horrific comments shows that the school values Galliano over their entire Jewish student body," reads the petition. "It shows they value him over their students' respect, peace of mind, and heritage. It is disgraceful to hire someone who has made such inhumane comments."
Students at Parsons The New School for Design were allegedly notified of the appointment via email. Galliano is believed to be teaching a session named Show Me Emotion - exploring the power of emotion in relation to fashion design.
Last month, the designer set a project for Central Saint Martins students, before paying a visit to the London college to comment on their final work. Rumours of a permanent teaching post circulated but were swiftly dismissed by a CSM spokesperson.
Galliano was dismissed from his position as creative director at Christian Dior in March 2011, after being filmed making anti-Semitic comments in a Paris café.

Michael Kors Hosts Glamorous London Dinner

MICHAEL KORS and Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman co-hosted a glamorous dinner in London last night for friends and special guests. The intimate event celebrated the World Food Programme - a cause close to the heart of the US designer.
Guests including Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Laura Bailey, Daisy Lowe, Yasmin Le Bon, Erin'O Connor, Samantha Barks, Jacquetta Wheeler and Miroslava Duma enjoyed a cocktail reception followed by dinner at the Café Royal in Central London. Bangladesh Factory Collapse Prompts Protests

PROTESTS took place in Dhaka, Bangladesh, yesterday over the collapse of a garment factory on Wednesday that killed more than 300 workers to date. The death toll is thought to rise as rescue teams continue to search for survivors among the rubble.

Garment workers damaged an estimated 100 vehicles in the Mirpur, Rampura and Badda areas of the city, while thousands went on strike. They are calling for the arrest of the building's owner, Sohel Rana, who allegedly forced workers to enter the factory on Wednesday - despite severe cracks having appeared on walls on Tuesday. Employees were swiftly evacuated, but instructed to return the following day - regardless of orders from manufacturing officials that the eight-storey building should remain closed. Rana has not been found since the incident, The Guardian reports.
Brands including Primark, Mango and Matalan are found to have manufactured apparel in the building.

Alice Temperley Opens Jade Jagger Pop-Up

ALICE TEMPERLEY has opened a pop-up space dedicated to Jade Jagger's jewellery line inside her label's Bruton Street store. The area - which launched with a glamorous party at the boutique last night - will remain open for two months.
"Over dinner in Paris during Fashion Week, Jade and I discussed how much I wanted her jewellery and she wanted what I was wearing, so we decided it would be a fun idea to combine forces," Temperley told us. "We will continue to sell Jade's beautiful pieces for the next two months, along with some other creative friends' artworks. We also have fashion dolls by Alice Mary Lynch, backgammon boards by Alexandra Llewellyn and painted screens by Frederick Wimsett in the store."
Entitled Frocks and Rocks, Jagger's collection sit amid Temperley's spring/summer 2013 ready-to-wear. The pair first met eight years ago at a Temperley party, celebrating the Met Ball in New York.
"I love her eclectic sensibility and the use of influences from around the world," Temperley said of Jagger's jewellery. "She mixes the old and the new with a rock and roll twist. She has a free-spirited approach to design."
